Looking for a contrete solution between the slats.

We had an electrician and a plumber check out what has to be done to install a kitchen in the basement bachelor apartment. The electrical work is fairy straightforward but we ran into a block with the plumbing.

There is no drain where we have chosen to put the kitchen so the plumber would have to break into the concrete floor and tie into one of the bahtroom drains.

The $1800 (!!) estimate we received stipulates that we have to remove a section of the plywood floors ourselves. Today we worked for 2 hours pulling up nails only to find..you guessed it…ANOTHER PLYWOOD FLOOR! .

Let’s recap. We removed the carpet and found tiles. We ripped up the tiles another layer of tiles. We ripped layer number two and uncovered linonleum. When that was gone we were down to plywood and lifting that revealed plywood slats.

Today we peaked through the slats at the concrete below, and called it a day. We are seriously rethinking the location of the kitchen. The plumber had suggested putting the kitchen along one wall of the livingroom since there is a another drain there. It will make for a smaller livingroom but will cost less. Stay tuned…
