The most frustrating part of this basement project has been finding a way of replacing the 2 broken entrance doors . A standard door is usually 30″ x 80″. Since the basement ceiling is lower, one door is 29.75″ x 78.75′ and the other is 29.75″ x 77.5″. We decided we would leave the installation to the professionals and went to Reno-Depot to have this done. Two weeks later someone came to take measurements and 3 weeks later (!) Reno-Depot asked us to come into the store to choose our doors.
We were expecting the salesperson would be able to guide us to find a door that would fit the basement. What we got was a very inexperienced salesman who kept flipping through the pages of the door catalogue. He was so unsure of what parts were needed for our door, he had to page a colleague several times for help. We finally picked out 2 models and he quoted a price around $900 plus tax for 2 new doors and frames with an 8 week wait for delivery and installation. but he said that he would have to call us the next day to give us an exact quote. I called after waiting for a week with no news. Still no real quote and with anne’s mom moving date a month away, this became a DIY project.
We had 2 solid pine doors delivered from Reno-Depot, bought a circular saw with a cutting guide and Black & Deckerdoor lock installtion kit.
